Each year, 1,500 LA county children participate in Side Street Projects’ Alternate Routes program—a mobile art studio aboard renovated transit buses where kids learn about art, design, and fabrication using only hand tools, raw materials, and their imagination. Over 10,000 kids age 5-11 have been on the bus since 1997, half of which are at-risk youth who participated at no cost thanks to grants and private donations.
